Purpose

Highland Lakes Flyers is a club organized for the purpose of flying and promoting radio controlled model aircraft. There currently are forty-five adults plus seven junior members under the age of eighteen. Most members fly fuel powered airplanes, however several members also fly electric powered models.

Location

The club's flying site, named Hank Nilsen Field, is located near Kingsland, Texas. Traveling north on FM 1431, turn right on RR 2545 by the Ace Hardware and Building Supply and drive 1.8 miles to Limestone Street. Turn left on Limestone, go approximately one quarter mile and turn left again. Look for signs pointing towards the field. Street address is 702 Williamette, Kingsland, Texas 78639

 Daily Flying Times

During deer season, flying starts after 8:45 am.
Other times, flying may start anytime after sunrise.

Visitors

Visitors are welcome, but must park and observe activities from safe vantage points. Visitors are allowed to fly models under certain circumstances regulated by the club's Safety Committee

Joining the club

The club welcomes new members and does not discriminate on the basis of sex, race, creed or ethnic background. A prerequisite to club membership is membership in the Academy of Model Aeronautics. Application forms are available at Hank Nilsen Field as well as from any of the club's officers. Flying is regulated by the club's Safety Committee. Experienced flyers seeking membership must demonstrate their skills to the satisfaction of the Safety Committee before solo flying is allowed. New pilots must undergo supervised training and meet the Safety Committee's requirements before solo flying is permitted.
